Glowing in the Dark for a Cause | By Jayshree Naidu
Lumiére ’17 – Illumi-Night Run was the first night run on campus happened on the 6th of May and it was organised in conjunction with the Lumiére ’17 campaign by Taylor’s University Community Service Initiatives (C.S.I) Volunteers.
The night run is one of the 3 main events under Lumiére ’17 to raise funds for this year’s beneficiary, the Selangor Family Aid Association and Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia. The night run is exclusively special because participants were given glow-in-the-dark merchandises, which according to James Wong, the Organising Chairperson, “To symbolise having hope in the darkness.” They wanted to spread awareness on being the light to the special needs community’s darkness.
Lumiére ’17 – Illumi-Night Run turned out to be another crowning achievement for C.S.I. Volunteers as the event was very well organised. According to one of the participants, Lee An said, “It was my first time joining a marathon run at night and it was actually more enjoyable to run in the night as the environment is soothing.”
Taylor’s University’s C.S.I. Volunteers is a student body that has community engagement and volunteerism as its driving force to raise the standards of its performance and achievements.
If you feel a little disappointed about missing out on the night run, there is still a chance to turn on that Night Fever, on a Thursday! Lumiére ’17 – A Night to Remember is their last event under Lumiére ’17, on the 25th of May and ticket sales are still on!
Our local talents will be there to perform such as Paperplane Pursuit, Hanz 郭文翰, Nik Qistina and many more! Every ticket that you grant will go straight into their beneficiary, and might just bring you some luck, at the concert’s Draw of Hope!
