It’s been another routine day of waking up early for online classes, staring at your phone screen and working on those never-ending assignments. Each day seems to become more mundane than the last. The news is as depressing as it gets, and life around you isn't exactly perfect either. As you climb into bed, you click on Spotify, and before you know it, you’re listening to those familiar songs of happier days and better memories. A smile lights up your face as you sing along and forget the world for a while. Now, you’re in your tiny little safe space where it’s only you and sweet melodies—and somehow the day doesn’t seem all that bad anymore.

With Malaysia slowly easing back into normalcy, we are all forced to start getting off this roller coaster of a pandemic. Funnily enough, the word ‘roller coaster’ feels like an understatement. Lives lost, grief in abundance, financial stability fizzling away, the physical pain, the whirlwind of emotions in the dark, the hurt, the stress, the disbelief—it could go on and on. I don’t think there is a single person reading this who has escaped this pandemic in one piece. Some days, the sun shines brightly, while on other days, the nights have never felt colder.

And on the days where it feels like the whole world has stopped turning and your breath is hard to catch, for some reason, this simple, familiar thing called music offers relief and escape. Music heals the soul like no other. It embraces and uplifts us in ways no one else can, and on days where no one else is to be found. We give our time to so many things that don’t do much in uplifting our weary minds on a daily basis. Maybe it’s time to change that.

Our very own Taylor’s L.I.V.E. Club presents their signature event, ‘An A Cappella Night 5.0: Wanderer’ next Sunday. For a night, let your mind be transported to a melodious place of singing and music. Allow yourself a break in this modern age of constant hustle. Schedule in a night of no commitments, expectations or responsibilities, and give in to being entertained.

The theme of this event is ‘Gratitude’. Taylor’s L.I.V.E. Club feels that this pandemic has made many of us ponder on the meaning of our lives and how we are choosing to live it. They believe that in the different degrees of life, gratitude can always push us forward and remind us to enjoy the little things. After everything we’ve been through, the one thing we can all agree on is the newfound gratitude we have for all the things we took for granted: health, jobs, friendship, family, freedom, and even a simple old hug.

The name ‘Wanderer’ carries the meaning of walking aimlessly or without having any intention. The meaning behind this name, according to Taylor’s L.I.V.E. Club, was to describe the feeling of being lost and not knowing the next step. They believe that many can identify with this feeling—especially now as we emerge from a pandemic. Trying to rebuild our lives, to salvage what’s left and return to some normalcy may leave many of us stuck and perplexed in trying to figure it all out. ‘Wanderer’ reminds us that we are not alone, and that everyone is also experiencing that same fear, even if it's not showing on the outside.

We are all wanderers in our lives, trying our best to pick up the pieces and get back on the right track—and there is no shame in that. In addition to this being a showcase of the club’s exceptionally talented performers, they also hope to inject joy and enthusiasm to anyone going through a tough time by offering some musical relief with their specially curated song list.

Take a chance on a new experience on Sunday, 31 October, with Taylor’s L.I.V.E. Club. Streaming live on Facebook at 8-10pm, ‘An A Cappella Night 5.0: Wanderer’ is sure to be a relaxing, euphonious night in. Head over to Taylor’s L.I.V.E. Club’s Instagram page (@taylors.live.club) to get your tickets in exchange for a donation as low as RM8 that will benefit youth-led NGO, Hunger Hurts Malaysia. Allow yourself a little break to stop and smell the roses, dance in the rain and maybe even to sing a little song.
