Show Off Your Furry Friend! | By Keerat Kaur Wathan

Every once in a while we see a video on the internet going insanely viral through views, likes and shares. We then see it is yet another adorable animal doing something completely mundane like closing a door or eating some sort of treat. So even though this is something arguably boring, why do we watch the same videos a million times and laugh every single time we do? Well in all honesty, it’s the trivial aspect of it. We are taught from young that we as humans remain the most advanced species, so to see our pets do simple tasks that we can easily do spikes our serotonin levels, giving us a surge of happiness and warmth in our heart.
As a pet owner, I can personally vouch for this; everytime my dog does something as simple as sit somewhere or learn a new trick—I jump in joy as if it is the best thing I’ve ever seen. The only downside is that aside from the few animal lovers around, not many people want to sit for hours watching your dog do tricks. So how do we dog lovers release this happiness and share the love? Well lucky for myself and other pet owners out there, there is an event that is perfect for this!
Pawfection at Taylor’s University is hosting an online photo and video contest! If you can’t get enough of cute animal content, head over to @taylorsevent on Facebook on 13 November to watch adorable pets doing adorable things! You can also vote for your favourite pet to be the winner of this talent show. Pawfection is also offering irresistible prizes worth up to RM455! How can you resist?
One of the event organisers, April, shared with us all you need to know about this Paw-tastic event:
Pawfection is an online photo and video competition held by pet lovers, for pet lovers. Their goal is for pet owners to appreciate the little things that their furry friend does, while getting insight on other information. Not only will Pawfection be an online competition, the team has also enlisted knowledgeable speakers to come on board and give talks regarding pet care.

Moreover, Pawfection also partnered with Second Chance Animals Society (SCAS) for this event, and all revenue made will go to the NGO. The organisers hope to reach at least RM1000 for SCAS as they want to lend a helping hand to animals, especially in the trying times of the pandemic, whilst also bringing awareness to good pet caretaking.
The event will be held on 13 November. During the morning session (11am-12:30pm), three guest speakers will be invited to talk about pet care. While the mid day session (2-4pm) is when the main event will take place. There will be loads of fun interactive games, giveaways and more.
I, for one, cannot wait to see the adorable animals in action. If you are anything like me and love watching viral pet videos, say hello to a live show of that!
