Welcome to The Oscars: A Memory in Motion!(TCSC Prom Night 2022) | By Kenji and Nurul Yasmine
As the ballroom doors open, your eyes are taken by awe at the gorgeous dresses and smart suits, you make your way down the red carpet toward well-decorated tables, people gathered around them. As your friends chat and the music plays, you know the night of Prom has just begun.
As the crowd’s cheers grew in sound, the emcees went on stage and began to put on a skit. Although Kun, Yasmine and Leanne had their own names, for the night we knew them better as Leonardo Dicaprio, Julia Robers and Jennie Kim respectively. These three were welcomed by our host of the night Marissa. Jumping straight into a performance, the committee could not have picked a better act than The Baby Cosmos to kickstart the event. Their set truly blew everyone off their seats, garnering a loud cheer from everyone in the room. Following this act began the announcements of different award categories. A week prior to the event, a poll was opened up for attendees to pick who they felt was the best choice for the respective categories. Beginning this session was the award for best couple, which went to Melanie and Isaiah.
Just as we thought the night couldn’t get any better, Taylor’s Music Club (know infamously as T.M.C) took the stage to sing. They sang many different songs, but the one that gained the most cheer was their rendition of “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” sung originally by Shawn Mendes. Even from a viewer’s point of view, you could see the outpouring amount of passion and heart that went into these songs, and we were certainty amazed.
Jumping back into the awards, Best Promposal came on next. A promposal is a way for partners to express their want for someone to be their prom date, but in a creative and unique way. As it seems to be, Taylorians really are a creative bunch and so they could not pick one winner alone. Instead four different promposals were shown on screen as notable mentioned via a video for us to watch and gush over. Following this was the Best Dressed category, which was deservingly given to Jasmitra Jean as she glowed in the room from the minute she walked in. Her look was inspired by her mother which gave the look a whole new heart and sentiment to it.
Taylor’s Lakeside Dance Club took the stage and gracefully performed a well thought out choreography. It was both impressive and mesmerising.
Although all these events on the agenda had the audience feeling all the emotions, everyone was certainly on their feet for the lucky draw as the prizes were worth wanting to win- A blender from HiBlendr, a RM50 gift card, An Irish Makeup Set and brand new earphones. As the names rolled in, four lucky audience members screamed and ran to the stage to collect their prizes as soon as they heard they had won.
Arguably, the most exciting part of Prom for any couple who attends is the slow dance portion. Our Emcees Kun and Marissa came in handy as they presented a short tutorial on how to slow dance, for anyone who needed it. Just at the perfect time, Taylor’s Symphony Orchestra began to play covers of classic Disney songs, while the emcees encourages other guest to come to the dance floor with their partner to dance the night away. While watching the guests dip and twirl each other, it was almost like being in a ball room on the set of Cinderella. However the night was not over just yet, for there was one exciting award yet to be announced: Prom King and Queen.
As the guests waiting anxiously, the drum roll began and we saw Prom King went to no other than Isaiah Surin! As his peers cheered him on with glee, Isiah gladly accepted the sash on his shoulder and the crown on his head. Who better yet to be his queen that Nurul Yasmin, who look absolutely stunning that night.
Finally, the finale performance had come. K-GEN took the stage and got the crowd immensely excited and on their feet as usual with their amazing routine. Performing popular Korean songs, K-GEN certainly gave the entire ballroom a feeling of excitement. Just as we thought the night had come to an end, two of our emcees Yasmine and Leanne announced they too had a surprise performance up their sleeves! The crowd cheered loudly as they danced to the song Maria. This encouraged the whole room to begin dancing as guests found their friends and partners and began to dance.
The night ended in the most perfect way as Taylorian Zoe Lynn sang “You are the reason” by Calum Scott, putting everyone in a content mood, making us all feel like we left the ballroom with our hearts full.
Overall, the night was spectacular filled with sparkly performances and entertaining award sessions. It was definitely one to be remembered.
