“Interesting,” quoted Sze Kay, one of the many members of TAWS. “I find it interesting as there’s a ton of stuff to do at TAWS PetFest. We invited vendors such as Simply Fluffy, Zaba Shop, Chingu Bingsoo, Hot Mee Time and many more. We also organised game booths like the rubber duck fishing and there’s even face painting and fake tattoos where everyone is welcome to participate!”
“Stress-relieving,” said Xin Jie, an event participant. “I had a lot of fun with the rubber duck fishing game. I even won this gift bag by Amelisa Pet & Co. My friends, Beatrice and Sin Yee bought this delicious mango smoothie from the Bee Positive vendor booth right there. We just finished a practical session from our module, so it’s quite relaxing to play games and drink a smoothie right after.”
“Rad,” commented Hani, one of the event staff. “I feel that it’s very cool because the PetFest is very different from those of other universities like there are many fun game booths and unique vendors. And performances! I never experienced anything at a PetFest quite like this.” The crowd cheered for the stunning performance by K-Generation. The club performed Dolphin by Oh My Girl and I Am by IVE on day 1 of the event. In soft, cosy shades of blue, white, and grey, they hyped-up the energy of the PetFest with their amazing dance cover. Some of the event participants even sang and danced along to the K-pop songs.
Not to forget, Taylor’s L.I.V.E. club who performed on both days of the event. With songs like Treasure by Bruno Mars and Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, they maintained the hyped-up energy of the PetFest with their harmonious a cappella. There was also a beatboxing performance which pumped the audience up even more. Speaking for myself, I even added some new songs to my Spotify playlist.
“Meaningful,” said Jia Yu, another member of TAWS. “I think it’s very meaningful for us as the PetFest is also held to support and also promote animal welfare.” Compassion and protection for our furry friends can be seen and felt throughout the event, as TAWS also had a donation drive to help out Furrykids Safehaven and their rescues for a brighter future for strays. According to TAWS, Furrykids Safehaven is home to thousands of abused, neglected, and abandoned animals every year. To help ease their burden due to the increasing number of these furry children, TAWS has made it their main purpose of this PetFest to raise funds for Furrykids Safehaven.
There’s also a lucky draw with cool prizes such as vouchers, bracelets, pet treats, and even Sunway Lagoon Night Park tickets. With a small donation of RM5, you are not just eligible for the lucky draw, you are also saving the life of an animal.
“Endless Pawsibilities. I’ll say it fast so it sounds like one word,” said Thiiben, the organising chairperson of the event, for the second day of TAWS PetFest. “As our club’s theme for this PetFest, I think ‘Endless Pawsibilities’ is a good word to describe it. With small actions done individually, we can create endless possibilities for animals everywhere and even end animal cruelty towards these innocent creatures.”Now, I think the most fitting word to describe this PetFest would be success. TAWS signature event of 2023, TAWS PetFest: Endless Pawsibilities not only succeeded in bringing in a huge crowd, but also shed light on issues about animal welfare and animal cruelty. Hopefully TAWS also raised more than enough funds for Furrykids Safehaven. All of us can create a future where animals no longer have to suffer. We ourselves can also help by making a small move such as donating, sponsoring a pet, volunteering in animal shelters and many more. Remember, their lives matter!
