From being on those old TV boxes on NBC's coveted Thursday 8:30 pm timeslot back in 1994, Chandler, played by the late Matthew Perry alongside an amazing cast of Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and more, has touched many lives - past, present, and future. On and off-screen, his awkwardness toward girls, sarcasm, compassion, and eccentric humour has made him a household name for many.  Hence, the news of his untimely passing at only 54, shocked not only die-hard FRIENDS fans but also everyone who has heard of him.

Perry was found unresponsive in his Pacific Palisades home, outside of Los Angeles, by the LAPD at 4:17 pm on Oct. 28, seemingly drowning in his hot tub. A fire department spokesperson officials found an "adult male unconscious in a stand-alone hot tub" after responding to an emergency call at the time.

After an autopsy report, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Perry died due to an ‘acute effects of ketamine’. Following that, ‘Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death also include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effect of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder),’ added the Medical Examiner. Although, why he took ketamine is still uncertain.

What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that makes the patient feel detached from their pain by inducing a state of sedation, relief from pain, and amnesia (causing one to have no memory of an event). On the downside, it has some hallucinogenic effects like causing the consumer’s perception of sight and sound to be distorted and rendering the consumer’s command to their own body.

What are its overdose effects?
An overdose can cause unconsciousness, as evidenced in Perry, and dangerously slowed breathing.

Perry has always talked about his addiction struggles and in his memoir he alluded to relying on Ketamine at a point as to him, it helped his depression. ‘Has my name written all over it – they might as well have called it 'Matty,' he joked, of ketamine. Nonetheless, his autopsy confirmed that he has been clean for about 19 months which begs the question, why did he relapse?

These unanswered questions will forever be buried with Matthew Perry leaving his friends, family, and fans devastated. All we can do now is send love and condolences to his close friends and family through this heartbreaking time.
