Emerging from the depths of Taylor’s April Clubs and Societies (CnS) Festival, the grounds of Taylor’s Amphitheatre transformed into an underwater world from 22-25 April, uniting students in a sea of activities. Upon entering the venue, students were greeted with a vibrant environment, covered by a large tent with blue seams illustrating the ocean. Various clubs and societies could be seen passionately promoting their clubs where most booths were decorated according to the theme. Likewise, Etc. Magazine joined the bandwagon, featuring a charming mini-ship backdrop adorned with delightful sea motifs.

Around 86 clubs participated this time, allowing students to choose from various options. Among the new clubs and societies introduced was the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC).  “I have to say, CnS has a diverse range of clubs and societies coming together. It created a wonderful melting pot of interests, passions, and opportunities for students to explore and engage with. For the potential new members of GDSC, this is an amazing opportunity for everyone to learn and connect with like-minded individuals. GDSC is always a welcoming community where you can learn, grow and connect.” said Ivy, the Co-Lead of GDSC.

This event also featured Taylor’s long-standing clubs as well. Taylor’s Music Club (TMC) is known to be one of the many fan-favourites on campus and they participated during the third day too! Ethan, the Vice President of TMC shared: “As usual, I think OL has done a good job with CnS! It felt like there was less traffic this semester, but the people who came by our booth were definitely more eager to learn about TMC. For TMC, that's ultimately the goal for every event we're a part of—to show that we're all for giving out good vibes and good performances that hopefully the people on campus will enjoy!”

“The club leaders and their team did such a great job in promoting and encouraging students to join their clubs. Some even gave out vouchers, candies and ICE CREAM!” said Salmon, a spectator of this event. The organiser’s decision to provide ice cream to feedback form respondents was certainly a hit, offering a refreshing respite from the scorching weather. Adding to the allure, the event's mascot, a winsome polar bear named Tolbie, greeted visitors, imparting a sense of warmth and cheer to all.

Aside from the freebies, the venue buzzed with curious students visiting the booths, eager to glean insights into various clubs. Far from conventional question-and-answer sessions, the student leaders took the extra mile in making their booths engaging for spectators, such as live chess matches courtesy of Taylor’s Chess Club, a simulated camping setup by the Sky Adventure Club, traditional melodies by TRADISI, rhythmic beats from Taylor’s Lion Dance Club, and even a meticulously labelled skeleton replica provided by Taylor’s Lakeside Pre-Medical Society for students to learn from! Students enjoyed captivating demonstrations by Taylor’s Python Cheerleading Club at designated intervals along the walkway, featuring one of the many stunts called the “Flyer” while holding up their banner.

Nicki, a dedicated volunteer at the Community Service Initiative (CSI) club booth, mentioned, “April's CnS Fest was fun, featuring many food stalls, captivating student performances, and an animated photo booth perfect for capturing cherished memories.” For those desiring a break from exploring club options, a delightful array of choices awaited at the tent nearby—accessories, noodles, twist potatoes, satay, pastries, Milo, chili crab lava buns, and even perfumes beckoned, promising a feast for the senses. With satiated appetites, bystanders also had the option to watch performances by different clubs throughout the week at the Speaker’s Corner. While enjoying amazing performances, why not make some memories at the photo booth nearby? Though queues formed, the strategic placement ensured waiting was a lively affair, keeping boredom at bay.

As the curtains closed on Taylor’s April 2024 CnS Festival, students departed with cherished memories and new connections. They carried with them the spirit of exploration and the anticipation of future adventures in their academic and extracurricular pursuits despite the humid and rainy weather that fell upon them.

In the vibrant depths of Taylor’s April Clubs and Societies (CnS) Festival, students dive into an immersive underwater world, navigating through a sea of activities and vibrant booths. Amid the oceanic atmosphere, new clubs like the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) emerge alongside beloved favourites like Taylor’s Music Club (TMC), offering opportunities for learning, connection, and exploration.
